"....with the thinnest cascading scalloped sheets of waves edged in white foam.

They look like theatre curtains dramatically lowering on a final act,

as they slowly creep toward the shore and stop far short of home,

like they’re tired, relenting with a gentle beauty....."

Charlie this is beautiful with layered depths of meaning. .. I have watched the waves touching shore like this from the window of an airplane and noticed that slow tiring of energy ... something we can never see when up close in touch with the water - a matter of scale and perspective .. like the changes of life. I an so glad you are there now in the arms of the nurturing eternal sea.

Thank you, Pete! I’ve certainly gained perspective! As always, thank you so much for taking time to read my work and for your thoughtful commentary! What a fun platform for first sharing one’s writing with the world! I love Substack!

Mmmm. You took me there. Goosebumps on my arms from that cold, cold sand, sucking the heat from the soles of my feet, replacing it with joy, in the soul of my being.

Oh, yay! Isn’t that the reward?! Knowing your words resonated to the point of transporting?! Thank you, Lyssa! Thank you thank you!

Lovely, you captured it so well. My great niece, Leanne, from Tacoma has been here for a few days. What perfect weather combined with super low tides, we spent a lot of time on the beach. On Tuesday it was a minus 1.9 tide. We walked down at 7 am and made it all the way to Short Beach. She was in awe. Actually I was too, I never tire of getting around to all the little beaches. She’s been coming to Oceanside since she was little and just last week turned 30. I really enjoy getting to spend time with her.

Okay, back to my weeds. I am so happy you get to enjoy the beach even if it’s only from your deck. 🩷

Been busy in my yard, it’s looking pretty good. I’ll send you a couple of pics. The deer continue to graze on some of my favorite flowers and nap under the trees. It’s hard to stay mad for too long. Have been seeing two adorable fawns with their spots, pretty sweet.

How fun for you both! That’s wonderful! I have heard of people making it far past the tunnel to Lost Boys Beach?… but Short Beach?! Wow! That’s impressive! What a great little adventure!

I am so grateful to have explored so much of the area before being in this chair! I revisit trails in my mind daily!! I’m extremely grateful for this view too! I’m convinced that we (and the deer) live in the most beautiful place on earth!
